Obituary

Helen L. Jones, age 81 passed over on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020 in Lumberton, NC. Helen was born Oct. 5, 1938 in Lumberton to Frank and Bertie Locklear.

Those left to cherish her memories include her husband LJ Jones, brother Joseph H. Locklear, and sisters Hazel Locklear & Roza Bensch, all of Lumberton. She loved her countless nieces and nephews as if they were her own.

Helen loved her friends and family. She had the Spirit of the hummingbird: dancing into hearts, vibrating pure joy. She could fly up, down, backward and forward into your life. Living in wonderment, she darted from one conversation to another, wearing radiating colors; usually with a sparkle. She craved friendships like nectar.
Like an otter, she was adventuresome and playful. Helen was always on the move. She loved music and traveling. She was part of a sisterhood. She moved gently in the flow of her life.

Like a raccoon, she used her hands with food a lot and was a generous protector. Scouting for food in her kitchen was often a hilarious exercise in generosity. She protected the underdog and provided for the infirm and elderly. She served the community through hospitality and was a dedicated employee and friend of the Waffle House for many years. She was selfless, kind and quick with a smile and a chuckle. Her smile could brighten anyone’s day.

Helen was anchored. She brought honor to herself, her people and her heavenly father. Her light will continue to live in our hearts. We were blessed by her.
Rev. 21:3-4
And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be NO MORE DEATH, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be NO MORE PAIN, for the former things have passed away.”
